1256 – The Commanderie of Peyrassol was likely founded around 1204. A Templar parchment in the archives of Marseille dated 1256 documents a grape harvest for the Commanderie that year representing 28,000 liters of wine.1311 – The order of the Malta knights inherits the Commanderie of Peyrassol. Carefully maintained, the vineyards remain the property of the order of Malta until 1789.1789 – The order of Malta is robbed and the Commanderie goes to the state as a church asset.1790 – The Rigord family purchases the Commanderie and begins producing wine. From that time forward, the women of the estate manage the domaine.1967 – Dr. Yves Rigord inherits the Commanderie of Peyrassol and begins replanting a large portion of the estate’s vineyards.1977 – Françoise Rigord decides to bottle and market the wines of the Commanderie. Since then, brand awareness has grown and the wines have been ranked among the top in the AOC Côtes de Provence.2001 – With his passion for wine, Philippe Austry purchases the estate, committed to perpetuating the Peyrassol story and continuing its pursuit of perfection.Today the property, with its exceptional Medieval architecture, includes a wine cellar, meeting and banquet rooms, cafe/bar, and gift shop. The domaine also has a restaurant and boutique in Paris and in Saint-Tropez.
